Many of you may know, I have over the last several years taken up a hobby – cooking. Now I’m no chef but I’ve come to realize I could have been. Had I realized early on that I could take what I started out doing, working in restaurants, to a higher level, get an education in it and make some money, my career might have taken a whole different course. But alas, Happy Steak and J’s Coffee Shop at the time didn’t appeal to my domestic side. So it was with a lot of excitement I took timeout this weekend to go see a great new movie, Julie & Julia. It’s based on two true stories. the life of Julia Child and Julie Powell, a writer that took on a year long task to blog about all the recipe’s in Julia Child’s book, Mastering The Art of French Cooking. It was delightful. I’m not a big Meryl Streep fan but she had me seeing Julia Child the whole time. Amy Adams plays Julie and I felt her passion for the part. I felt a little out of place in the theater, it was about 1/2 full and the ratio was 90/10 women to men and they were all with their wives. I was the only single male in the place. But then I like chic-flicks (but I usually wait for the dvd). It may not get a lot of critical acclaim but it was a fun movie. It made me want to come home and try boeuf (beef) bourguignon.
