Ted Kennedy, Adios.
I was never a fan of Senator Ted Kennedy and my blog post here last week recognized what I thought would probably be his last play for attention. I didn’t know my prediction was so accurate.
In spite of being a blue state Senator with a checkered past, that by the way was conveniently swept under the rug in 1970 in anticipation of his potential future political ascendancy, he deserves to be remembered for the contributions he made in Congress over the last 48 years. “Kennedy played a major role in passing many laws, including laws addressing immigration, cancer research, health insurance, apartheid, disability discrimination, AIDS care, civil rights, mental health benefits, children’s health insurance, education and volunteering. In the 2000s, he led several unsuccessful immigration reform efforts. At the time of his death, he was continuing to work on universal health care legislation, which is often described as his “life’s work” – Wikipedia. Here then is a list of his contributions I deem considerable and worthy of an historic note:
